Some of my wood burning projects

Pyrography is the art of decorative burning.

It is NOT done with a laser, but each line is burnt with a hand held pyrography tool.

I first bought a cheap one that you can buy at most hardware shops, while that was good initially, I soon learnt that I wanted/needed something better. So I bought a more expensive machine that uses a wire tip to burn with.

So now I use the two different tools alternating with the different tips. The one pictured is great for larger areas and straight edging. Whilst the wire tip tool is better for the finer areas.

I have recently started using the pyrography tool to add some fine details on the wings of my carved birds instead of trying to carve fine lines.

Whilst you can burn most timber, some timber is better than others. it is just a matter of trial and error if you need to burn something that a customer wants you to decorate.

I  have also dabbled a little with painting after burning the timber. The came up really well and gave an interesting look once finished.
