This little video is a compilation of some of the wood working I managed to do in 2022.
The Carving projects were varied, for me, and I learnt a lot along the way.
The Vizsla dog is one that I am particularly proud of as it's the first ever dog I had carved. Later on, I carved the Tasmanian tiger-Thylacine and Tasmanian devil. Both of these were possible because I had learnt a lot from carving the dog. They all have their similarities even though they are different species.
Something that I have always wanted to try was the jointed bears which I did in 2022. They were particularly difficult as I had to design them from scratch and figure out how to make them move.
Another carving I always wanted to do was the horse's head. I was thrilled with the result and was sad to give it away as a birthday gift once finished.
Because of my limitations in 2022 from chronic illnesses, I did take things easy and paced myself and didn't take on too much work. So orders were limited and I did things that were not stressful.
So another thing I tried making was carving a stamp from wood, also known as block carving. I had seen a few done on Instagram & thought I would give it a go. This was another interest I had to research, as I didn't know much about it apart from what I saw on Instagram. So much to learn, and still learning! From the stamps I carved, I made some gift cards, some to match the carvings I had done and some just because!
Relief carving was another type of carving I gravitated towards because it was easy. The carved acacia grazing boards with different designs were very popular.
Looking back, I was surprised at just how much I had achieved throughout the year, as I was certainly struggling, but not completely overwhelmed and did plod along to achieve many wonderful & different projects.
